At PPM, zero harm is not just a company value, it is a culture that is part of our company mind-set. Whether you engage with our administrative teams or the teams on the ground, we share one voice when it comes to the world around us.
Our focus on employee safety is constant and unwavering but our care doesn’t end with humans – we are also consistently aware of our impact on the world around us.
When it comes to the environment and the long-term effects, we have on it, we continuously assess our impact and are always finding ways to bring balance. We talk to, and educate our communities, individual stakeholders and employees about the environment, to raise awareness about the role we all play within it.
To limit the area of disturbance and balance any marks we leave on the world, we have, over time, created an eco-system that focusses on the following:
We have invested R508 million in the creation of reservoirs and pipelines that supply water directly to our communities. We also plan to invest a further R24 million in the installation of ten more boreholes, that will make potable water even more accessible.
We understand our impact on the environment and have identified and implemented several energy-efficient initiatives, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The latter includes an agreement with the National Cleaner Production Centre of South Africa (NCPC-SA), which sees PPM implementing Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) techniques, which will assist us in improving our energy efficiency and further reduce our carbon footprint.
